12/25/2023 0 Comments Steamvr base station 2.0![]() They are just static IR-light sources and know nothing about other devices, nothing more, unlike Oculus CV1's cameras that needed to be connected to the PC. You buy them, mount them to wall and plug them them in to mains. Base stations are devices that don't need regular FW updates. I have never plugged in my v1 or v2 base stations to the computer via USB, there is no need to do that ever unless something goes really wrong. It should have been said in the video why BT can't be used (as many are asking about that here). I can understand why he instructs updating via cable (which is antique way to do it), as many Oculus users don't have Vive's or Vive Pro's link box and can't update the firmware using bluetooth (which is in the link box). There is just 0 reasons to try to manually update them. Now people are messing with FW updates without actually needing to do them. I would instruct trying to use them without updating and then update if they don't work. The last update (version 3008) from fall 2019 was only about improvements to BT power management and Oculus users can't use that feature anyway. Most likely base stations already have a recent enough FW, no reason to update. Good video in a way that it shows how easy that is, but the video is not good enough if person is not familiar with SteamVR already in advance. ![]() That instruction hints that the person who made the video don't actually know what he is doing or at least don't know his target group. The main thing I hate in that video is about plugging base stations to the PC, that's something you would not need to do and is something that should not be instructed as a necessary step. That video is quite bad, it definitely lacks some basic explanation on how SteamVR works for Oculus users (as they work totally different way). The most important part of the tutorial for new SteamVR users (installing base stations and trackers) is done way too briefly, without explanations and omitting important information. You are the third Oculus user here in few days here wondering how SteamVR works. I was following this guide to set it up ().I guessed that you have seen it. ![]() Originally posted by Niiou:I have a Rift S and 3 Vive Trackers. File name "htc_2.0" just means it's version 2.0 of the firmware for v1 base stations. In the worst case scenario you just installed v1 firmware to v2 base stations. I won't suggest using that for v2 base stations, all instances of using that file I have found are posted years before v2 were introduced. Hope you didn't brick them, as that manual update you mentioned is a super old guide for v1 base stations. Usually the headset that is the one that sees the base stations and then they turn green in the SteamVR. Do you have a headset, a controller or a tracker turned on and located so that it sees a base station? If not, then they remain gray. SteamVR detects the base stations only when you have a tracking device that sees them (because your PC is not a direct connection with them). Which one of those you have? If you don't have those, then you don't have the BT device and you need to turn them on/off manually. It's located in the Vive's or Vive Pro's link box or in the Index headset itself. Bluetooth SteamVR mentions is the specific BT device that's only job is to connect base stations. Windows detect it, how? You don't need to plug them in and normally you even shouldn't. Base stations don't need connection to PC, you just put them to your room and turn them on, that's it. Are you new to SteamVR? Sounds like a problem not understanding how SteamVR tracking works.īluetooth is just optional, it's for firmware updates and putting base stations to sleep when SteamVR is not active. ![]()
